Updating and backups
Update the plugin and UTP Connect, back up your park, and move to a new VPS — all from the utp-connect menu.
Updated 11 October 2026
Everything on this page happens in one place: on your VPS, type
utp-connect
and pick what you want from the menu. (Installed UTP Connect before this menu existed? Run the installer once: curl -fsSL https://ultimate-themepark.com/install.sh | bash — it finds your installation and opens the same menu.)
Update#
The plugin. When a new version is out — we announce it in our Discord's #changelog, and by e-mail — download it from your downloads, replace the old .jar in plugins/ (delete the old one: two versions side by side won't work), and restart your server.
That's all. If this version needs a newer UTP Connect, UTP Connect updates itself as your server restarts: the console says "UTP Connect is updating itself to match this plugin", and the link comes back on its own a minute or two later.
UTP Connect. When UTP Connect has an update of its own, a banner says so at the top of its administration (/utp admin in game). Click Update now. UTP Connect then:
- makes a backup of your park, in case,
- downloads the new version and starts it — your page is offline for about a minute, and the music stops for your guests meanwhile: pick a quiet moment,
- checks that it answers. If it doesn't, it goes back to the previous version by itself, with the backup it just made, and the banner tells you so.
The page reloads by itself once it's done. Your settings, rides and photos stay as they are. You never need to know UTP Connect's own version: it is always the newest one made for your plugin.
You can also update from your VPS: type utp-connect and choose Update. It finds your plugin's version by itself.
When you set UTP Connect up by hand#
Without the installer, the banner shows the line to change: set UTP_VERSION to the value it gives, in the .env file next to your docker-compose.yml, then run docker compose up -d. Back up first.
Back up#
Everything you set up in the administration lives in UTP Connect — rides, regions, shows, settings, photos, and the link secret. Your Minecraft server holds only config.yml.
To make a backup, type utp-connect and choose Back up. UTP Connect pauses for a few seconds, and the backup is written to:
/opt/utp-connect/backups/utp-connect-2026-10-05-183000-v5.0.0.tar.gz
The name says when it was made, and with which version. It holds your park's data and your music.
Download it to your computer, and keep it somewhere safe: a backup that only lives on the VPS is lost with it. To fetch a file from your VPS, use an SFTP program — WinSCP or FileZilla on Windows, FileZilla or Cyberduck on a Mac — and connect with:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Protocol | SFTP |
| Host | your VPS's IP address |
| Port | 22 |
| User | root |
| Password | your VPS's password |
The installer also makes a backup on its own before every update and every restore. They all pile up in that folder: delete the old ones from time to time with your SFTP program.
Restore a backup#
Type utp-connect, choose Restore a backup, and pick one from the list. The installer:
- keeps a backup of the current state, just in case,
- puts the chosen backup's data back — and its music, if you say so,
- starts UTP Connect again, on the version the backup was made with.
If a newer UTP Connect has come out for your plugin since, the banner of its administration offers it — see Update.
Move to a new VPS#
-
Make a backup on the old VPS (above) and download it to your computer.
-
On the new VPS, upload the backup to the
/rootfolder with your SFTP program. -
Still on the new VPS, run the installer:
curl -fsSL https://ultimate-themepark.com/install.sh | bashand choose Restore a backup. It finds the file in
/root, installs UTP Connect on the version the backup was made with, at the same address, and puts your data and music back. -
Point your address at the new VPS. The installer checks it, and waits while you do.
- A free address: open the link the installer gives, and choose Point it to the new VPS's IP address.
- Your own domain: change its
Arecord to the new VPS's IP address — see Install UTP Connect.
The link secret is in the backup, so your Minecraft server reconnects without any change to config.yml — as soon as the address points at the new VPS.
Uninstall#
Type utp-connect and choose Uninstall. The installer offers to make a last backup, kept in /root, then asks you to type DELETE to confirm. Everything goes — UTP Connect, its data, its web server settings and its certificate. Docker stays installed, in case something else of yours uses it. A free address stays yours: delete it in your client area if you no longer need it.
