Gates and effects

Open real gates, play sounds, light up a queue, lock a safety bar — with the commands you already know.

Updated 19 October 2026

Ultimate Theme Park never places blocks or redstone by itself. Instead, at each step of the ride, it runs commands that you write — the same commands you would type in the console. That's what makes it work with any build and any plugin: pistons, doors, lights, sounds, particles, holograms, anything a command can do.

Where to write them#

In the administration: Rides → Edit on your ride → Machinery tab.

  • Opening the gates — runs each time the station's gates open.
  • Closing the gates — runs each time they close, just before the restraints come down.

Write one command per line. The slash at the start is optional. Lines starting with # are notes and are ignored.

Example: redstone gates#

Most gates in Minecraft are pistons or doors driven by redstone. The simplest way to drive them from a command is to place and remove a redstone block that powers the circuit:

Opening the gates

# Power the gate circuit
setblock 102 64 -18 minecraft:redstone_block
playsound minecraft:block.iron_door.open block @a 102 64 -18

Closing the gates

setblock 102 64 -18 minecraft:air
playsound minecraft:block.iron_door.close block @a 102 64 -18

Replace 102 64 -18 with the position of a block next to your circuit. (Stand on the spot and press F3 to read your coordinates.)

Three words that are filled in#

WriteAnd it becomes
{ride}the ride's name — "The Plunge"
{rideId}the ride's number — 7
{position}for a selector, the position picked (see below)

For example: say The gates of {ride} are open!

Restraints#

The restraints need no command: when they come down, the plugin stops riders from getting off. To see the lap bars move as well, give each cart of your train a TrainCarts animation named restraints, recorded from open to closed. The plugin plays it forwards to close them, and backwards to open them.

Try it sitting in the train, at the speed the ride plays it:

/train animate restraints --speed 0.1

It should be over in 3 seconds. If it takes longer, shorten the Delta T of its keyframes in TrainCarts' animation editor.

Custom actions#

On top of the gates, a ride can have up to four actions — buttons on the operator's panel that run your commands. Open the Actions tab and click Add an action. Each one has a name (shown on the button) and a kind:

KindWhat it doesExample
PulseRuns its commands once, when pressed. The ride's first pulse also runs every time the train leaves — even with nobody operating.A smoke puff, a horn, a pre-show
ToggleA switch: one set of commands to turn on, another to turn off.Station lights, a queue line fountain
SelectorSeveral positions, one after the other at each press. {position} starts at 0.A lighting mood, a track switch
Safety lockMust be locked before the train can leave, and unlocks when it comes back (with an operator on duty, when they release it). One per ride.A floor that drops away, a door in front of the train — see below

Two timings are available on each action, in seconds:

  • Animation length — how long your machinery takes to move. Nothing in the game can tell the plugin when an animation is over, so this is what it waits for: the button stays locked meanwhile, the train leaves only once a safety lock is in place, and a pulse fired on departure is let finish before the train goes. Leave 0 for a pulse that should go off with the launch.
  • Debounce — the button stays greyed out a little longer after a press, so that nobody spams it.

What a safety lock is for#

A safety lock is for anything in the station that must move out of the way before the train leaves, and back into place once it has returned — while everybody is safely strapped in. Some examples:

  • An inverted coaster's floor. Riders board standing on a platform under their feet. Once the restraints are down, the floor drops away (or slides open) so their legs hang free, and it comes back up when the train returns.
  • A door in front of the train. The station is closed by a door the train leaves through — into a tunnel, a show building, a dark ride. It must open before the train leaves (or bam), and close behind it when it comes back.
  • Gates at both ends of a raised station. When the station stands high above the ground, gates in front of and behind the train stop a clumsy guest from falling off the building. They open just before dispatch and close as soon as the train is back.
  • A flying coaster's seats. Riders board sitting, then the seats tilt back into flying position before the train leaves, and tilt up again at the end.
  • A water ride's boat lock. A barrier holds the boat in the station, and lifts to let it go.

In each case: the Arming commands move it out of the way, the Releasing commands put it back, and Animation length is how long your animation takes — the train waits for it before leaving, so nothing is ever half-open.

The safety lock in the cycle#

With a safety lock, the cycle gains one step: after the restraints close, the lock is locked (its arming commands run), and the train only leaves once its animation is over. When the train comes back and stops, the lock is released first (its releasing commands run), then the restraints open once it is back in place. With an operator on duty, nothing is released on its own when the train comes back: the operator releases the lock, then opens the restraints — see Operating a ride.

With a pulse as well, the order is: the lock, then the pulse, then the train — each waiting for the one before it to finish its animation.

While the lock is on, or still moving, the gates and restraints can't be moved, and the lock itself can only be locked with a train in the station and its gates and restraints closed — just like on a real ride. An operator locks it with its button on the panel, and the Dispatch button only lights up once the lock is in place; with nobody operating, it locks on its own before each departure.

Flat rides#

A flat ride has one more field, Starting the sequence: the commands that set your machine going. See Flat rides.

When a command fails#

If a command has a typo, or calls a plugin that isn't installed, the console says so:

[UltimateThemePark] [ride] command not found (ride=The Plunge, command=setblok 102 64 -18 …)

The following commands still run, so one mistake doesn't block the ride.
