Block sections
Run two, three or more trains on the same coaster without them ever meeting.
Updated 16 October 2026
A real coaster runs several trains at once: one in the station loading guests, one on the lift, one on the circuit. To keep them apart, the track is cut into block sections, and a train may only enter a section once the train ahead has left it. Ultimate Theme Park does exactly that.
How it works#
The track is cut by utp-block signs. A section runs from its sign to the next sign. When a train reaches a sign:
- if the section ahead is free, it carries on;
- if not, it stops and waits. Riders see "Waiting for the next block to clear".
When the train ahead leaves, the waiting train starts again on its own.
The station counts as section 0: it's always the first. It follows the same rule: a train ready to leave while section 1 is still taken waits at the platform, gates shut and restraints down, with the same message, and leaves as soon as the section is free.
Place the signs#
Number your sections 1, 2, 3… in the order the train meets them, starting after the station:
[train] [train] [train]
utp-block utp-block utp-block
7 7 7
1 2 3
Good places for a block sign are where a train can stop safely and start again:
- the bottom of the lift hill — the train waits there before going up;
- a brake run in the middle of the circuit;
- the final brakes, just before the station.
How many trains?#
One fewer than the number of sections, counting the station. With the station and three blocks (four sections), you can run up to three trains. A section must always be free for the trains to move up.
The first lap#
The plugin learns the sections as trains pass over them. After a restart, the first train to go round sets everything up — nothing to do on your side.
A train is stuck on a block#
- Check with
/utp ride status 7: it shows the ride's state, and whether the track ahead is clear. /utp ride reset 7frees all the sections and reopens the station, unless the ride is closed.- A train held on a block for longer than the delay set in Settings (10 minutes by default) is released on its own.
